Dr Catena has work and research experience from the University of Oxford and UC Berkeley. He has worked for the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) and co-organised the first Value-Based Health Care course delivered by the organisation. He has also worked for the SPHERE Institute in California.
Over the years he has worked on projects to improve care for a wide range of clinical specialties and has experience with hospitals in the UK, Sweden, France, Italy and the Netherlands and with Medicaid and Medicare in the United States.
While in the United States, Dr Catena has developed an expertise in the management and use of Big Data to improve health care delivery and decrease costs. He has also worked on the development and application of innovative data mining solutions. In Europe, Dr Catena has specialised on how to drive health care improvement. He is an expert in the adoption of technological/managerial solutions to collect patient data.
Dr Catena has a Master's in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from UC Berkeley and a doctorate from the University of Oxford where he completed a thesis entitled "Essays in Health Care Operations Management." He has also two degrees from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Bologna in Italy.
He is fluent in English and Italian.
